FUNDING NEWS Please check you are eligible to claim!

Funding is available from Skills for Care to support employers with workforce development:

Training Strategy Implementation funding (TSI) is available on an annual basis to support employers, micro employers and micro providers (including those who employ their own support staff) with workforce development - building the skills of their employees. The funds are a contribution to the cost of learning and assessment. This funding is distributed across the country by Skills for Care's TSI partnerships, and the funding supports a wide range of staff training and qualifications including NVQs, moving and handling, food hygiene and the Common Induction Standards.

What do I need to do, in order to be eligible to claim funding?

1         you must be part of an employer led partnership. Contact Lucinda Starling at  Norfolk &Suffolk Care Support Ltd / Norfolk Brokerage  01263 825889 01263 823232 lucinda@n-scs.co.uk

2       You will also need to complete or update the National Minimum Data Set (nmds-sc) and there is more detail below to support you in this activity.

Is my organisation eligible for TSI (Training Strategy Implementation) Funding?

Many of our employers have already done significant work in completing the National Minimum Data Set (nmds-sc), which is great news, but some of you are asking how you will know if you have completed or refreshed significantly in order to apply for TSI funding for this year.

Firstly, take a look at the guidance documents on the Skills for Care website:

http://www.skillsforcare.org.uk/funding/skills_for_care_funding/skills_for_care_funding.aspx

The relevant guidance document is called "How to complete NMDS-SC in order to claim TSI funding in 2010/11”. This describes the data which needs to be completed, and is summarised below.

You MUST complete the following sections:

Questions about your establishment:

- current Investors in People status

- establishment type

- main and other services provided

- service users for whom services are provided

- service capacity and uptake level

- numbers of staff permanently and temporarily employed

- numbers of bank/pool, agency, student, voluntary and other staff

- numbers of staff leaving and starting in the past 12 months

- number of vacancies

- reasons for leaving, and destination of leavers

Questions about your workers (answers for each worker required)

There are a set number of questions we ask about each worker. This set of questions must be repeated and answered for each individual worker. The questions for each worker must be answered for a minimum of 90% of your workforce (i.e. if there are 10 people that work for an organisation then the set of questions must be answered for a least 9 of those people).

For each worker, questions on the following must be answered:

-          gender

-          date of birth,

-          nationality,

-          main job role,

-          other job roles (if applicable),

-          start date (in main job),

-          source of recruitment,

-          employment status,

-          contracted hours of work,

-          additional hours worked (if applicable),

-          full-time or part-time,

-          working arrangements,

-          sickness absence,

-          salary,

-          date first employed in social care,

-          induction status,

-          qualifications held.

How can we answer queries from our staff about the reasons we need to include their data?

We have put together guidance, which can be found on the website:

http://eastern.skillsforcare.org.uk/national_minimum_data_set_social_care/nmds-sc.aspx

Once you’ve clicked on the link, take a look at NMDS Worker Information May 2010 where you’ll find answers to the most frequently asked questions.

There is also guidance relating to the number of workers for which you need to include information, and this can be found on the Skills for Care website:

http://www.skillsforcare.org.uk/funding/skills_for_care_funding/skills_for_care_funding.aspx

The relevant guidance document is called "Guidance on nmds-sc completion for TSI funding"

For an establishment to be eligible for TSI funding in 2010-11, the following three criteria must be met:
1. An establishment which has completed an NMDS-SC organisational record before 1 April 2010 must fully update its organisational data.
2. The establishment must fully complete individual NMDS-SC worker records for a minimum of 90% of its total workforce (this includes any staff who are not care-providing).
3. Individual records for workers completed before 1 April 2010 which are included in the 90% calculation must be both fully completed and updated.
